Grants, Rebates and Government Initiatives

Our government is doing alot of good things in the area of climate change. Many initiatives that have been in the development stages are starting to become available in 2009 such as the Green Loans Program for homeowners and the Green Building Fund for commercial premises.  If you know of an initiative that is not listed here at Local, State or Federal Level please let us know so we can spread the word!

The Ausindustry website has wealth of information about the initiatives the government is taking to encourage businesses to reduce their energy consumption.

Green Building Fund - targets owners of existing commercial office buildings. It supports them to reduce their energy consumption, by retro-fitting and retro-commissioning of these buildings. Grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 are available, for up to 50% of project costs.

Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program - encourages large energy-using businesses to improve their energy efficiency. It does this by requiring businesses to identify, evaluate and report publicly on cost effective energy savings opportunities.

Energy Efficiency Opportunities is designed to lead to:

  • improved identification and uptake of cost-effective energy efficiency opportunities
  • improved productivity and reduced greenhouse gas emissions
  • greater scrutiny of energy use by large energy consumers.

Green Loans is a Federal Government initiative which will make low cost loans of up to $10,000 available to homeowners to purchase products which will make their homes more energy efficient.  LightenUp LED Solutions has been in consultation with the developers of this project and we are pleased to say that LED Lighting will be included as part of the range of products that homeowners may purchase under this scheme.

Randwick City Council is offering rebates for energy efficient downlights including LED's as part of their Sustainable Home Makeover Program.  If anyone knows of any other councils with similar initiatives please drop us an e-mail at info@lightenupleds.com.au so we can post the information here and let people know.

Queensland Sustainable Energy Innovation Fund -To assist Queensland based organisations to develop innovative technologies that reduce consumption of fossil fuels, water or greenhouse gas emissions.
